Council Meeting held Wednesday, November 8th 1911 at 3.00 pm

Attendance.

Present Miss Emily Cox (chair), Mrs. F. E.A .Cooke, Mrs. Tawney, Mrs. Whittaker, Miss Maggie Hall, Councillor James Johnston, Mr. H.V. Herford, Rev. C.T. Campion, Mr. Ricketts, Miss Mary Quaile, Mrs. OM Aldridge.

Apologies. Apologies for absence received from Mrs. J. J. Findlay and Mrs. Bamford Tomlinson. The Minutes of last meeting were read and passed. The monthly financial statement was presented by the Treasurer.

Typists and Insurance. A letter was read from the Association of Shorthand Writers and Typists suggesting that the question as to the advisability of federating all the unions to form an Approved Society under the Insurance Bill be brought before each Society.

Sub Committee. The Sub Committee Minutes were read.

Bradford Dispute. It was reported that a further attempt was made by Councillor Tom Fox and Mrs. Aldridge to secure an interview with Messrs. Waite Sons and Atkinson at the Bradford Flax Mill. The answer was a curt refusal. The strike commenced on the 18th. Efforts were being made to raise a relief fund. Mrs. Edward Whitley had telegraphed that she would give £10 weekly till a settlement was reached.

Broughton Flax Mill Relief Fund. Rev. C.T. Campion reporting on the Broughton Flax Workers’ Relief Fund said that the total of receipts amounted to about £246.4.10. Of this over £100 had been collected by the Council and the remainder by the workers in collecting boxes on the streets and at the gates of large works in the Broughton District. A balance sheet would be appended to the Annual Report.

Home Workers. It was reported that the Drawing Room Meeting arranged by Mrs. Payne was unavoidably postponed till December 8th.
