Special Meeting of Council held Monday, May 25th 1914 at 5.30

Present Miss Emily Cox (chair), Mrs. J. J. Findlay, Mrs. F. E. Ashwell Cooke, Councillor Margaret Ashton, Miss Basnett, Miss Foster, Miss Florence Ashcroft, Miss Guffick, Miss Bailey, Miss Malpas, Mr. G.V. Cox, Miss Mary Quaile, Mr. Hugh V. Herford, Mrs. O. M. Aldridge, Mr. P. M. Oliver.

Candidates interviewed. Miss Maclennan and Miss Gardiner. Two applicants for the post of Organising Secretary Miss Alice Maclennan and Miss Rose Gardiner who had been selected from a list of seven candidates by the Sub Committee at a special meeting on May 19 were interviewed in turn. Both applicants had excellent testimonials.

Miss Gardiner appointed. After discussion Miss Ashton moved and Mrs. Findlay seconded that Miss Rose Gardiner be appointed Organising Secretary for ten months. Salary to be at the rate of £100 per annum and duties to commence on September 1. Carried nem. con.

Miss Ashton moved and Miss Basnett seconded that Miss Gardiner be asked to come to Manchester for a fortnight before the commencement of Mrs. Aldridge’s leave of absence to be introduced to the Unions and put in touch generally with the work.
