May 12th, 1915

Council Meeting held Wednesday, May 12th 1915 at 7pm.

Members Present Mr. H. V Herford, Miss Purcell, Miss Bailey, Miss Chapman, Mrs. Withington, Miss Margaret Ashton and Mr. Watson.

Apologies of absence were received from Miss Emily Cox, Mrs. J. J. Findlay, Mrs. Ernest Simon, Councillor James Johnston and Mr. P. M. Oliver.

Mr. H. V. Herford was elected to the chair.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and passed.

Arising out of the minutes the Secretary reported the business of the meeting of the Manchester branch of the War Emergency Workers' Committee.

The Secretary reported that Mrs. Aldridge was unable to attend the conference in London of the War Emergency Workers’ National Committee.

A financial statement was made by the Treasurer.

Correspondence.

A letter was read from Mrs. W. J Arnold enclosing a letter written by the late Bishop Moorhouse to the Council on its formation and expressing sympathy with the movement.

A letter was read from the Manchester branch of the Union of Democratic Control asking for delegates to a Special Conference to be held on Saturday May 15th 1915 at 3 pm in the Milton Hall. Moved by Mr. Watson, seconded by Miss Margaret Ashton that Mr. H. V. Herford and Miss Quaile attend the conference as delegates.

The Sub-Committee minutes were read. An increase of 2d per dozen on one line of blouses had been gained at Messrs. Humphreys.

The Clothiers’ Union had gained an increase of 1d on khaki tunics at Messrs. Wilson Bros.

The Secretary of the Engravers’ Union reported having obtained an increase of 1/6 per week for painters as a war bonus.

Mrs . Maglone has been successful in getting a reduction of 2 hours on Saturdays for Carriage Cleaners at London Road Station.
